You've created your position and configured your screening test. Now comes the most important question: how do you actually get candidates to apply? This guide will show you how to replace standard job board applications with your 1WayInterview screening test, ensuring you only see quality candidates from the start.
The Problem with Standard Job Applications
Here's how it typically works on job sites like Indeed. Candidates see your job posting, click "Apply Now," answer a couple of knockout questions, attach their CV, and submit. You receive applications via email or in your ATS, then a recruiter calls them to screen – only to discover that 30%-50% are completely irrelevant because they mass-applied or used automation tools.
The reality is that many job seekers today either apply to everything without reading the details, or they use AI-powered automation to mass-apply to positions. This means you're spending valuable time sorting through irrelevant applications instead of focusing on quality candidates.
Three Ways to Get Quality Applicants
The screening test allows you to filter for quality applicants from the start based on their skill set instead of a keywords in a CV.
Here are three ways to invite candidates to the screening test that we see getting the best results:
- Replace the application method on Indeed, LinkedIn, and other job boards with your 1WayInterview screening test, so candidates land directly on your test when they click "Apply Now."
- Invite candidates directly via email, SMS, or ads – perfect when you have your own candidate database or want to reach specific talent pools.
- Set up pre-screening knockout questions on job boards, TikTok ads, or other platforms that gather the candidates profiles before they move to your full screening test.
In this guide, we'll focus on Option 1: sharing your interview link on job boards.
How It Works
This is the most straightforward approach. You simply replace the standard application method with your 1WayInterview link. When candidates click "Apply Now," they land directly on your screening test instead of just submitting a CV. This immediately filters out candidates who aren't serious about your position.
Step 1: Set Up Your Application Method on Indeed
When you're editing or creating a job post on Indeed, you can choose your application method. Here's how to configure it:
Click Post a Job or edit an existing job post. You can use a previous job as a template if you'd like. Once you're on the job details page, you'll see the application method settings.
By default, Indeed is usually set to email applications. Click to edit the application settings, and you'll see "Receive applications on Indeed" is toggled on. This is what we want to turn off and replace.

Important Note About Access
If you don't see the option to change your application method, you may need to contact Indeed support. This setting isn't always enabled by default for new or smaller companies, but the support team from Indeed can activate it for you very quickly.
Adding Your 1WayInterview Link
Now you need to get your interview link from 1WayInterview. Once you've created your position, you'll see the link that you can copy directly. Alternatively, go to Positions, choose the appropriate position, click Share with Candidates, and click Copy Link.
Go back to Indeed, turn off "Receive applications on Indeed," paste your 1WayInterview link into the external application URL field, and click Done. Confirm your changes, set your budget for the job post, and click Save and Continue.
What Candidates See
Once your job is published, candidates will see an "Apply on Company Site" button. When they click it, they're redirected directly to your screening test page. No more simple one-click applications – every applicant goes through your screening process.
Step 2: Set Up Your Application Method on LinkedIn
The way you change the application method on Indeed works similarly on LinkedIn. When posting a job, you'll find comparable application settings.
In the Job Settings section, look for the Manage Applicants option. By default, it's usually set to LinkedIn, which sends updates directly to your email. To change this, switch from "On LinkedIn" to "On an External Website."
Paste the same 1WayInterview link that you used on Indeed into the candidate application URL field. Click Continue and proceed with your job posting.
Once the job is posted, candidates will see that responses are managed off LinkedIn, and they'll see an "Apply" button that directs them directly to your screening test.
Step 3: Apply This to Any Job Board
This approach works on virtually any job board. As long as the platform allows you to customize your application method or add an external link for candidate applications, you can direct candidates to your 1WayInterview screening test.
The process is generally the same:
- Find the application settings when creating or editing your job post
- Look for options to use an external application link or custom URL
- Paste your 1WayInterview link
- Save and publish
The Key Benefits
This method is perfect when you're posting jobs on major job boards and want to ensure every applicant goes through your screening process. The key benefit? You only see candidates who were willing to invest time in your screening test, which immediately filters out mindless mass applications.
Candidates who complete your screening test have demonstrated:
- Genuine interest in your specific position
- Willingness to invest time and effort
- Commitment to the application process
Instead of sorting through hundreds of irrelevant CVs, you can focus your time on candidates who've already proven they're serious about your opportunity.
Your Next Steps
You've now learned how to replace standard job board applications with your 1WayInterview screening test. This single change can transform your hiring process by ensuring you only review candidates who are genuinely interested and qualified.
In the next guide, we'll cover Option 2: inviting candidates directly via email and SMS, which is ideal when you have your own candidate database or want to reach out to specific talent pools.
